Anne Falconer Packham Workshop
Floral Painting
At a workshop instructed by Anne Falconer Packham on floral painting, the subject matter was a trumpet flower. One of the challenges of working with a white flower, is to leave some of the white paper while working with subtle nuances of soft colours to give the impression of shadows and folds on the blossom, being careful not to overwork the subject thus making it appear muddy. The group also studied the use of different backgrounds, from negative painting to intense colour.
Susan says:
"Even though we all had the same instruction, it is interesting to see the end results as each artist has a different interpretation. My finished piece is shown on the bottom, second from the right. As you can see I chose to make the background colourful and intense, no surprise to those know my work."
